About this tour
Our Marrakech desert tours offer an amazing opportunity to explore the Sahara Desert and its unique culture. We provide a variety of activities such as camel rides, hiking, and visits to local villages.
The Sahara Tour
A trip to Marrakech will take you through some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. You will see dunes, oases, palm trees, and more. This tour includes a visit to the Atlas Mountains, where you will enjoy stunning views of the city.
The Atlas Mountains Tour
This tour takes place in the High Atlas Mountains, where we will visit the beautiful city of Ouarzazate. You will also enjoy the stunning scenery of the mountains and the oasis town of Todgha.
Following breakfast, we meet you at your Marrakech lodging and drive you to the Ouzoud cascades in the Middle Atlas Mountains. One of Morocco’s most impressive and arguably most beautiful waterfalls is this three-tiered, 110-meter-high waterfall. You can take a raft ride to the base of the falls to witness nature’s majesty and beauty firsthand. The sun’s rays reflecting off the falls’ spray produce multi-layered rainbows. To explore and learn about this beautiful place, there are also guided walks available. The local Barbary monkeys that come here to eat may very well be visible. There are plenty of opportunities to take pictures while eating lunch in front of the falls. After visiting the falls, we travel through the Atlas Mountains’ forested environment to the charming Bin el Ouidane lake before continuing to Imilchil, where we stay the night and have breakfast and dinner.
The story says that the young lovers Tislit and Isli drowned themselves in two neighboring lakes since they were unable to marry due to their quarreling tribal families and did not want to live apart. However, the folklore also has it that their tears filled the lakes. But a mountain stood between their lakes, dividing them even in death, preventing their spirits from uniting in the hereafter. If you’re feeling brave, you may go on a day hike and travel the 7 kilometers between these two lakes while picturing the terrible yet lovely tale. If you become too exhausted, we may arrange a pick-up and a picnic lunch. The local tribes gather for an annual celebration of marriage in September during which the ladies get to select their spouses.
After breakfast, we leave Imilchil and go southwest to the Dades Gorge. Along the way, we pass through beautiful terrain, Berber communities, and pleasant inhabitants going about their everyday lives. We choose the Dades Gorge option at the road junction at Agoudal. With some beautiful eroded formations and rose-colored mountains, this is a striking panorama. Old adobe kasbahs and fertile farms may be seen all along the river valleys. We eat supper and have breakfast while staying the night in a nearby guesthouse.
We go from this magnificent gorge after breakfast to explore another one farther down the river. We travel to the Todra Gorge from Tinghir, which is a popular location for international rock climbers due to its 300-meter vertical fault and crystal-clear glacial river. This pink-tinged canyon, produced by glacial action, is just 10 meters wide at its narrowest point. It is common to witness nomads filling water jugs with the assistance of their donkeys. After taking a break for lunch here, we continue south through palm groves and Berber towns with adobe kasbahs till the scenery shifts and the Sahara sands greet us to the Erg Chebbi dunes and Merzouga. After enjoying a welcome mint tea, we ride camels through the dunes to our nomadic camp, dinner
If you get up early enough, you may experience the majesty of desert dawn; it is a really beautiful moment and an experience you will never forget. After returning by camel to the hotel, we have breakfast and get ready. Our Marrakech Desert tours continue as we explore the market town of Rissani and the stunning kasbahs of Alnif and Nkob. After our lunch break, we’ll continue the off-road route to the enormous Draa Valley, where we’ll encounter its immense palm oasis and prehistoric way of life. We’ll stay the night in a hotel in Agdez with dinner and breakfast included.
We travel north from Agdz, in the center of the vast Draa Valley’s palm orchards, with the Saghro Mountains on our right and the Atlas Mountains in front of us. We arrive at Ouarzazate, known as the Hollywood of Africa, and the location of blockbusters like Mummy and Cleopatra. Then, we detour from the highway to see Ait Benhaddou, another well-known filming location where the Gladiator was shot. An important stronghold on the ancient caravan routes that carried salt to Timbuktu is this adobe castle or ksar. We’ll have lunch here and stay a little while. Before descending to the lowlands of Haouz and the medina of Marrakech, we travel across the High Atlas Mountains.
