After breakfast, we leave Marrakech and drive to the UNESCO coastal medina of Essaouira. This charming city has a busy traditional fishing port where bright blue boats work hauling in a myriad of fish which you can see for sale. Its Portuguese history is visible in the architecture from the 16th century. Its whitewashed walls and blue shuttered windows and doors are characteristic of coastal towns that have been influenced by European invaders. Essaouira is full of craftsmen and artists, musicians and artisans, it is famous for its fine handcrafts; marquetry, the art of working wood with ebony, mother of pearl, and silver threads is practiced here, Thuya wood is also from this region, galleries and narrow streets abound with wonderful crafts and artwork. Cafes and restaurants offer a tantalizing selection of dishes; fish and seafood being plentiful. We will stay here for dinner and overnight at a local hotel or riad.

After breakfast we depart from Essaouira for Agadir, travelling south along the coast, we visit Sidi Kaouki beach; its undisturbed dunes and Argan shrubs make this beach one of the most beautiful in all of Morocco. The beach of Taghazout is a paradise for surfers and offers excellent sea views. Once in Agadir, we will also visit the beach there and we see the new and very European city of Agadir, where we stay for dinner and overnight at a local hotel or riad.

We will continue our journey along the Atlantic seaboard to Sidi Ifni. The Spanish flavor and Art Deco architecture make it perfect for a relaxed visit. Then we travel to the town called Tiznit, where the locals dress in traditional costumes and also sell locally handmade Berber jewelry. Dinner and overnight at the local hotel in Sidi Ifni.

After breakfast, we leave the coast and drive inland to the Anti Atlas Mountains where we will visit the towns of Goulmime and Tafraoute. This area is known for its almond trees, also for argan oil, and the production of babouches which are traditional Moroccan leather shoes. We will finish the day with a relaxing walk in the Amen Valley. Tonight we will dine and overnight in a hotel in Tafraoute.

This morning, we leave this picturesque region and continue our tour to Taroudant, known by locals as Little Marrakech due to the backdrop of the High Atlas Mountains and its red adobe city walls, which are more complete than those of any other Moroccan town. This Berber market town is less frequented by tourists, providing an authentic experience of everyday life. It is much closer to two mountain ranges and the sea than Marrakech, making it an ideal base from which to explore the Berber countryside. This ancient medina is surrounded by a fortified wall that hides Taroudant’s secret; it is a shopper’s paradise for aficionados of unique silver items. Dinner and overnight at hotel or riad in Taroudant.
